Try to picture this: a beach, a big beach that just goes on and on, so far that you can’t make out the end of it. Can you see it? Okay, in your mind, reach down and pick up a grain of sand. Study it. Small and light, right? Now, while rolling that grain of sand between your fingers, look around at the beach that it came from. In your mind’s eye, look up the beach, look down the beach. What do you see? Sand, lots and lots of sand. Can you even begin to imagine how many individual grains of sand make up that beach? I’m sure that someone somewhere could actually calculate that number; but for now, let’s pretend that we can, too. Okay. Now, multiply the grains of sand you’ve calculated by the total of all the beaches in all the world. Whew, that’s a bunch of grains of sand!
Now for a little analogy. Let’s say that those grains of sand represent time. Furthermore, one grain of sand represents one lifetime; so a gazillion grains of sand would amount to a long, long time. We could then say that eternity would amount to more than all the time represented by all the grains of sand on all the beaches in all the world. Because eternity is forever and ever and ever, without end.
Even if we live to be 120 years old, our time on earth is so short compared to eternity. So, just keeping our lives in perspective would enable everyone to get along so much better. There’s really no time for fussing and fighting, holding grudges and unforgiveness.
Don’t put it off any longer. Make apologies and seek forgiveness, both from your neighbor (which is everyone you know) and from God, who is ready and willing to forgive. ‘If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.’ 1 John 1:9.
Then come and meet the Savior. ‘Jesus said, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.” ’ John 14:6.
‘For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.’ John 3:16.
Just one life, twill soon be past. Only what’s done for Christ will last.
